WHAT IS SEO?

SEO is following best practices to rank on Google.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of following best practices and carrying out proven tactics to rank on the top of Google, Bing and other search engines.

SEO is not a dark art. Though it can be technical, there are proven best practices to follow.

THE BENEFITS

01 SEO is a free ad.

If your marketing strategy relies on ads, you'll be paying for those ads next year (and the year after...and the year after). Once you invest in SEO and rank, you won't pay nearly as much to stay there.

02 SEO is trusted.

We live in a culture saturated with ads. We've learned to ignore them. Google ads, on average, are only clicked 1 out of every 10 times. The other 9 clicks are a result of ranking using SEO.

03 SEO is 24/7.

Ad campaigns have a start and end date. There's only so much budget for marketing your business. When you optimize your site to show up on search results, your site will never sleep.

93%

of all Internet traffic comes from search, according to a Forrester study.

ORGANIC SEO

What Is Organic SEO?

Organic SEO is simply ranking on the first page of search results (typically on Google). It is a process that typically doesn't happen overnight, but including this in your strategy pays off in the long run.

This differs slightly from local SEO because Google has set up separate algorithms. More on local SEO in the next section.

Organic SEO involves an analysis of what keywords you already are ranking for, what you are able to quickly rank for and which keywords will actually result in a sale or conversion for you.

Is Organic SEO for Me?

Probably.

Most small businesses will benefit from some form of strategic optimization of their site. Some businesses, however, won't find much return on their SEO investment.

If your business meets a felt need — "chinese restaurant near me," "best donut shops in lexington," or "how to fix a clogged drain" — you will absolutely benefit from SEO.

If your product or service, by its very nature, doesn't meet a felt need, SEO may not be the best strategy for you. Will a musician, who doesn't meet a felt need, benefit from SEO? Sure. It just might not be at the top of my marketing strategy for you.

LOCAL SEO

How does local SEO differ from organic?

When you search for a local business or service in Google ("chinese restaurant near me"), you'll typically find a map with 2-3 local business results somewhere on the first page.

Those are there thanks to a complex algorithm that Google added a couple of years ago. That 3-pack includes the business name, rating on Google, hours of operation, a link to their website and a link for directions.

If you are a local business, it is vital to be found here.

Can I even rank? If so, how?

Ranking on Google as a local business all depends on how competitive the landscape is in your area. It will take months of hard work (both on your part and my part), but most businesses have a good chance of ranking for specific keywords.

To find this out, we need to analyze the digital landscape for your business.

Once this is finished, we go to work! The beautiful part of local SEO is that you are able to beat out much larger, national websites because we are narrowing our target to searches happening right in your own city.
